What's In My Bag: Cameras & Lenses

Shop: Photography Awesomeness

These are items I personally use and absolutely love. Everyone’s journey into and through photography is so different. In fact, you may find a newer camera that suits you better! But the best camera you have is the one with you. I could spend thousands and upgrade my equipment on a yearly (or weekly!) basis! But I don’t… it’s not necessary nor is it wise for me.

I started with a Nikon D90 and a 35mm prime lens. As I began taking more and more portraits, I found myself with a Nikon 50mm 1.4, which I still have today. I began shooting weddings and bought the Nikon 24-70 mm 2.8 and 70-200 2.8 VRII - and these were workhorses with fantastic glass. But H-E-A-V-Y. My wrists were so warn out every weekend, and that made me think about my camera system.

I sold off all my Nikon gear (except the 50mm 1.4!) and switched to the Panasonic Lumix GH4 for it’s video capabilities and lightweight fantasticness. It’s a beautiful camera and I fell in love with the smaller size!

However, it did not function as well in low-light. I really missed the Nikon D700 for portrait shots.

Fast forward to today, I’m using the Nikon D700 with the 50mm 1.4d and 85mm 1.4d for portraits and the Panasonic Lumix GH4 with the 45mm 2.8 for macro shots and the two zoom lenses listed below for anything else.
